The star has donated the full amount of his £25,000 Mercury Prize winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to save the United Kingdom's small live music spots.
The star was presented with the cheque on 16 October as his third album the album was declared the best record of the last 12 months.
The musician has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the crucial part small stages fulfilled in his initial steps.
"As an artist wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the performances I did around the North East, and further afield, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are facing challenges."
Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.
Over the past year, well-known musicians like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by including a small levy to their admission fees, which supports independent venues.
Fender also participated, collecting more than £100,000 on his recent tour to assist 38 small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.
These funds helped locations that were confronting possible closure due to issues stemming from water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and sound issues.
Other venues were granted financial assistance in improving amenities and technical equipment that positively impacted musicians and concertgoers.
"The concept that money from performances in big venues helps the independent spots, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.
Fender is far from the only musician to donate his Mercury Prize winnings to good deeds.
Back when they received the trophy in the year 1996 for their record Different Class, vocalist Cocker declared that the act would donate their prize money to the organization War Child.
In 2002, artist Ms Dynamite shared her award among multiple charities, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.
"And I donated a thousand pounds to the center, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required better apparatus," she shared with the media.
Two years ago, they contributed their prize money to the youth organization that supported their band, as well as other grassroots music organisations.
And 1994 winners M People donated their prize to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was diagnosed the disease.
"The victory was quite enough," said vocalist the singer. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't need the bonus, because we had the honor. So our winning impacted the lives of others."
Recently, the trust announced it had saved a couple of local spots in the South East, by transferring them to public stewardship.
The first in that area and the other in that location were acquired under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is funded by a national body and supporters who acquire "ownership units" in the buildings.
